Hertfordshire remains one of the safest counties in the country and has little gun crime. However, Hertfordshire Constabulary is holding a firearms amnesty between November the 10th and 21st, as part of a national campaign to reduce gun crime, during which members of the public to will be encouraged to surrender any firearms in their possession to the Police.
Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “Although we are fortunate in Hertfordshire with our low levels of crime, one gun in the wrong hands is one too many. Rightly, the Police come down very hard on illegal possession of firearms, and I support this amnesty as it will encourage anyone with a weapon to surrender it without fear of prosecution. I urge anyone with a gun that they do not want, or should not have, to visit www.herts.police.uk/amnesty for more information.”
