Below is the Written Parliamentary Question that Sir Oliver sent to the Transport Department on the progress on the design phase of the A1(M) widening scheme, and the answer he received.

Q: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport […] what progress has been made on design development for the A1(M) Widening Scheme.

A: Highways England Delivery Plan, published in 2015, includes the introduction of smart motorways on the A1(M) between Junctions 6 and 8. This will provide improved capacity and better access, and should unlock much of the growth potential around Stevenage.

The scheme is commencing design development works now.

Commenting, Sir Oliver said, “I am glad to see that the design stage of this important project is underway, and I will continue to press for speedy progress.”
