Over the past week, I have been pressing for immediate action from operators Govia Thameslink Rail (GTR) to restore a proper timetable, accurate passenger information and more reliability on the train lines running from our commuter stations.

On Tuesday June 12, I pressed the Minister of State at the Department of Transport (DfT), Jo Johnson, about the ongoing issues of disruption caused by the rail timetable changes implemented last month. He told me that he would urgently take up concerns with GTR.

The following day, I met with Baldock Commuters' Group Dan Matthews to discuss rail issues and immediately brought these to the attention of the Department for Transport (DfT).

This morning, 19th June, I held a frank meeting with the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, to put further pressure on rail operators to bring back reliable services, timetables and information for passengers. Chris Grayling and I agreed that GTR must sort out services on our line soon or he would take the necessary steps to terminate the franchise. I also continued to press the Secretary of State for a proper passenger compensation package to be announced within one week.

This afternoon, I called in the House of Commons for the Secretary of State to confirm that GTR must sort out the services soon or face steps to remove their franchise. He also promised an announcement on compensation.

I am continuing to take up passengers’ concerns with Ministers, the DfT and GTR on a daily basis to try to ensure that robust reliable rail service my constituents expect and deserve.
